Bohunt Farnborough Showcases Excellence to Dame Kate Dethridge, DBE

We were honoured to welcome Dame Kate Dethridge, DBE, Regional Director for Schools in the South East at the Department for Education (DfE), last month, for a day of insightful discussion, collaboration and celebration of educational excellence. The visit highlighted the School’s commitment to an ambitious, inclusive learning environment and strong culture of continual improvement.

Headteacher Daryl Bond opened the day with a learning walk, showcasing dynamic classrooms and high-quality teaching. He said:

“It was a privilege to host Dame Kate and share the exceptional work happening across our school. I’m incredibly proud of our staff and students, who demonstrate our values every day.”

Bohunt Farnborough joined Bohunt Education Trust (BET) in January 2024, and is now in the top 4% nationally for progress improvement. The School has made enormous progress in all areas; parental recommendation has risen to 81% and staff confidence in leadership is at 94%.

A leadership briefing from senior staff set out the School’s strategic priorities, followed by staff and student panel discussions that gave Dame Kate first-hand insight into the School’s ethos and aspirations.

Trust-wide initiatives were outlined by Bohunt Education Trust’s Director of Improvement, Gary Green and Executive Headteacher, Mark Marande – supported by Subject Directors and Inclusion leads addressing key areas such as curriculum development, safeguarding, SEND and attendance. A lunchtime meeting with student leaders and a remote panel led by Executive Headteacher Georgette Ayling further highlighted student voice and women in leadership across the Trust.

The day concluded with strategic discussions led by Neil Strowger, Trust Leader of Bohunt Education Trust.

“Dame Kate’s insight and deep understanding of school improvement made this a hugely valuable visit,” he said. “Her reflections will help shape our next steps across the Trust.”

Reflecting on the visit, Dame Kate praised the School’s energy and ambition:

“Bohunt Farnborough is full of purpose and dedication,” she said. “Students are confident and articulate, and staff are deeply committed to every young person’s success.”

Dame Kate’s visit reaffirmed Bohunt Farnborough’s strengths in leadership, innovation and inclusive practice. Staff and students found the experience energising and look forward to building on its momentum in the months ahead.
